Our Curriculum

Building strong foundations for a life-long love of learning.

In order to learn, children need to be provided with a solid foundation of skill acquisition and to develop a range of thinking and research abilities. As educators, we aim to provide learning environments that give students opportunity to be resilient, make their own decisions, initiate ideas, persist, find out, try again, take risks, explore and research in a range of ways that relate to children’s own interests.

Breaking down barriers : Introducing Auslan to our St Mary Magdalene’s School Curriculum.

Learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is a way to communicate with the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community in Australia.

There are several benefits of learning Auslan:

  • Learn to communicate with friends, family, and peers who use Auslan
  • Learn about Deaf-hood, cultural identity, and community membership.
  • Learn to see deafness as a difference, not a disability.
  • Develop neural pathways and cognitive processes unique to visual language.
  • Create an inclusive culture that supports all children and young people.

Key areas of the Australian Curriculum

From the first year of schooling to year 6, our students develop knowledge and skills in the following eight learning areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Health and Physical Education (HPE)
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
  • The Arts
  • Technologies

Beyond the Classroom

Extra-curriculuar activities are those which sit outside of the Standard curriculum.

We offer these to our students to meet the children’s interests as well as motivating them to become more involved in the school community.

  • Sports Carnivals
  • Catholic Schools Music Festival
  • Art Club
  • Lego Club
  • Children’s University

Setting our sights high!

Our students have been given the opportunity to sign up for the Children’s University program once again. We are pleased to announce that we have 39 of our students enrolled in this program for 2025!
Out of the students who signed up early, 3 have already reached the minimum hours of learning required (30 hours) and will be invited along to the graduation ceremony at Adelaide University in Term 4.
We hope to see all 39 students walk the graduation stage to celebrate their efforts in learning outside of school hours.
“With a simple aim to develop inquisitive eager learners with a passion for lifelong learning, Children’s University promotes educational experiences where students are encouraged to develop their curiosity and creativity.”
